Cycling in the rain.

September 15, 2010 by welshcyclist

I was reading, a little earlier, MassiveMTBer’s post, ” Everywhere you go, you always take the weather with you”, describing how he got the wettest he’s ever been, riding on his commute. Same here, the last couple of commutes have been in constant rain and wind, ended up soaked through, with waterfilled shoes. But I loved it all, riding in the wind and rain is, for me at least, a fantastic experience. As long as one is warm enough, the ride is just serene, a complete joy, and I feel I’m part of nature.

The countryside is still lovely to look at in the rain, it looks so fresh, and it’s fascinating to watch the rain sweeping along the valley, with low clouds nestling on the wooded hillsides.

Truth is, though, that cycling is great, no matter what the weather, wind, rain or shine, I’ll take the weather with me, which reminds me of MrDaveyGie’s blog, “Bicycling is Proof that God Loves us and Wants us to have Fun”. I’m not a religious man, but that title sort of says what I’m trying to say.

As you know, I wimped out of the commute yesterday, but I’m off to bed for a nap now, then I’ll be up at 15.00, to get ready for my ride into work for my last nightshift this week.  As I write  the sun is splitting the trees here.

Cheers for now.

I am definitely in agreement with you on this one. I like my rainy, windy commutes as much as the sunny, calm ones.

  2. I have loads of out door type weather cliches that were thrown at me during my days in the military.

I especially like “There’s no such thing as bad weather only poor equipment” and “You only get wet once”.

If we waited for good weather we’d never ride!

    Good post mate!

I wish I was braver about the rain but I just can’t enjoy it. I’ve tried it a couple of times – and if I’m out when it starts raining it’s not so bad – but it’s just been grim. I can’t believe Scottish rain is wetter than Welsh rain so it must be I’m wearing the wrong clothing.
